Area essentials

What can you do around the Salou area?

VYou will also find a large variety of leisure activities, culture and gastronomy in the areas around Salou. We have chosen 5 must-do plans for you to carry out during your holidays in Salou:

Surprise yourself visiting Barcelona

Barcelona is one of the main tourist destinations in Europe. There is a bus stop for buses going to Barcelona right in front of Apartaments CYE Salou.

Once in the city we recommend visiting Parque Güell, the Sagrada Familia, strolling along the famous Ramblas, the Gothic District or Paseo de Gracia with its spectacular modernist buildings. If you are travelling with children, they will love Barcelona Zoo, the Aquarium or Tibidabo Park.

Soak up culture with the Cistercian Route

If you are a culture lover, you can take the Cistercian Route that lies inland from the Costa Daurada, a route that covers three Cistercian monasteries, authentic gems from the Middle Ages: Poblet Monastery, Santes Creus Monastery and Vallbona de les Monges Monastery.

The Cistercian Route also offers guided visits through the region and there are cultural and leisure events like gastronomic days, concert cycles, exhibitions and much more.

Feel like a real Roman

Visiting Tarragona’s Roman Tarraco is another essential cultural route on the Costa Daurada. Tarragona is home to one of the best Roman archaeological ensembles in the world. It is therefore not surprising that the UNESCO declared it a World Heritage site in the year 2000.

Don’t miss the guided visits to the amphitheatre, the forum, the circus, the necropolis or Tarragona’s National Archaeological Museum. Stroll through the backstreets skirted by Roman walls and, if you are travelling in May, go to the Tarraco Viva festival with its many activities and re-enactments about ancient Rome.

Take a boat trip or swim with shoals of tuna fish in the Delta del Ebro

In the south of the Costa Dorada we find the Delta del Ebro with its amazing Natural Park. There you will be able to visit different fishing villages like Camarles or l’Ampolla, ride a bike and catch sight of the bird species that inhabit the Delta, embark on a boat to sail down the mouth of the river or have a swim in the spectacular beaches with their long dunes, and round off the day with an exquisite shellfish lunch in any of the restaurants here.

Moreover, in l’Atmella de Mar, you can go on an open sea excursion and end up swimming with shoals of tuna fish!

Discover the works of Gaudí and Modernism in Reus

It is said that Reus is the cradle of Modernism in Catalonia. In fact, this is where the famous artist Antonio Gaudí was born.

The marks left by both Gaudí and Modernism can be felt throughout the city. We recommend you to take one of the guided visits offered by Reus City Hall in order to really discover the city’s Modernist gems. And to round it off, there is the must-do visit to the Gaudi Centre, an interpretation centre where you can delve into the life and works of the artist.
